Leather-Care Instructions

Complete Guide

Leather Care Instructions

Your wallet is crafted from premium top grain leather — a living material that rewards proper care. Follow this guide and it will serve you beautifully for years to come.

Before You Begin — Understand Your Leather

Top grain leather is not plastic. It is a natural material that breathes, absorbs, and responds to its environment. With basic care, your wallet will develop a rich patina that makes it look more expensive and personal with every passing year.

01 — Daily Habits

Do Not Overstuff

Pakistani wallets carry everything — CNIC, multiple bank cards, receipts, thick cash. Overstuffing stretches leather permanently and weakens stitching. Keep only what you use daily.

Tip: If the wallet cannot close comfortably — something needs to come out.

Keep Away From Heat

Pakistan's summers are brutal. Never leave your wallet on a car dashboard or near a window in direct sunlight. Extreme heat dries leather rapidly and causes permanent cracking.

Tip: Your car's glove compartment in peak summer can reach 70C — leather's worst enemy.

Water Exposure

  • Light rain will not damage your wallet — top grain leather handles light moisture well.
  • If soaked — remove cards and cash immediately. Let it air dry naturally — never use a hair dryer.
  • Once completely dry, apply a leather conditioner to restore moisture to the fibres.
  • Never dry in direct sunlight — it will harden and crack the leather surface.
Tip: Monsoon season is the most dangerous time for leather in Pakistan.

02 — Cleaning

Daily Dust Removal

Pakistan is dusty — especially Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad. Wipe gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth every few days. Never use rough fabrics, paper towels, or tissues as they scratch the surface.

Deep Cleaning (Monthly)

  • Dampen cloth with plain water — slightly damp only.
  • Wipe gently in circular motions.
  • For stubborn marks — one tiny drop of mild dish soap.
  • Wipe residue off. Air dry completely.
Tip: Never use detergent or chemical cleaners on leather.

What to NEVER Use on Your Leather

  • Surf Excel or detergent — strips natural oils, causes rapid cracking
  • Dettol or antiseptic liquids — discolours leather permanently
  • Vaseline or petroleum jelly — clogs leather pores, causes darkening
  • Baby wipes or wet wipes — alcohol content dries out leather
  • Hand sanitiser — destroys leather finish rapidly
  • Nail polish remover / acetone — strips colour and surface instantly
  • Olive oil or cooking oils — go rancid inside fibers, causing permanent damage

03 — Conditioning

Leather is skin. Just like your skin dries without moisture — leather dries too. In Pakistan's harsh climate — hot summers, humid monsoons, dry winters — conditioning is essential, not optional.

How to Condition

  • Apply conditioner on soft cloth — not directly on wallet.
  • Rub gently in circular motions across entire surface.
  • Let absorb for 10-15 minutes.
  • Buff with clean dry cloth to remove excess.
Tip: Condition every 2-3 months. More often in extreme summer and dry winter.

Where to Buy in Pakistan

  • Any shoe repair shop (mochi) — ask for leather oil
  • Service, Servis, and Bata shoe shops
  • Daraz.pk — search leather conditioner
  • Kiwi Leather Conditioner — widely available

04 — Pakistan Season-by-Season Care

Summer (April — June)
  • Never leave wallet in a parked car
  • Avoid back pocket — sweat damages leather
  • Condition more frequently in heat
  • Keep away from direct sunlight always
Monsoon (July — September)
  • Keep wallet in inner pocket during rain
  • Air dry immediately if soaked — never heat dry
  • Watch for mold in humid conditions
  • Condition after any water exposure
Winter (November — February)
  • Cold air is dry — condition more often
  • Keep away from room heaters
  • Condition at start and end of winter
  • Avoid salt contact in hill stations
Dust and Pollution (Year Round)
  • Wipe with dry cloth every few days
  • Store in dust bag when not in use
  • Wipe down after riding rickshaw or motorbike
  • Avoid placing on dirty surfaces

05 — What to Absolutely Avoid

Habits That Will Damage Your Leather

  • Sitting on wallet in back pocket for long periods — permanently deforms the shape
  • Spraying ittar, perfume, or cologne near it — alcohol in fragrances dries leather
  • Machine washing — destroys leather completely, no recovery possible
  • Ironing — melts the leather surface instantly
  • Leaving ink stains unattended — sets permanently if not addressed quickly

Emergency Care

  • Ink stain: Dab immediately with cotton bud in rubbing alcohol — dab, never rub. Then condition.
  • Oil stain: Sprinkle cornstarch, leave a few hours to absorb, brush off gently.
  • Mold: Wipe with cloth dampened in diluted white vinegar. Air dry. Then condition.
  • Deep scratch: Apply conditioner and rub gently — most surface scratches disappear.

06 — The Patina — Why Your Wallet Gets Better With Age

Your Wallet Is Supposed to Change — And That Is a Good Thing

Over months and years of use, your top grain leather wallet will develop what leather craftsmen call a patina — a rich, deep, characterful finish that forms as the leather absorbs the oils from your hands and adapts to your daily environment.

The colour will deepen. The shine will develop naturally. The leather will soften in all the right places. This is not wear and tear — this is top grain leather doing exactly what it was made to do.

A leather wallet with a beautiful patina is worth more — not less. It is proof of quality, time, and a life well lived. No two wallets age the same way. Yours is becoming uniquely yours — every single day.
